FUNdraising Party
June 1st, 2009Finding Peace Within
June 1st, 2009My goal for this site is to develop it into THE place to find your own peace. Having peace within is the only way to create peace without. I don’t know a lot, but I do know that doing things in the name of service is one tool that can help someone find inner peace. When you give of yourself, when you help others, when you share, when you pass someone and smile, you are less likely to dwell on the negatives in your own life and thereby are creating a sense of inner peace. The more good you do, the better you feel. It can be scary, but its worth it. Don’t you agree?
Riverview Intercultural Fair
May 30th, 2009We just went to the school that my daughter will be attending in the fall for kindergarten. Riverview Intl Academy had their first annual International Cultural Fair and it was REALLY fun! I’m so excited for my daughters to be going there because not only is RIA a great school academically, but it also has a very active Student Peace Makers group there. I don’t know that much about it yet, but I’m just so pleased that this school has chosen to become more responsible about the environment (they do A LOT of recycling) and peace and social justice issues.
My first post! Starbucks Drive Thru
May 28th, 2009This morning, I was in the drive thru line at Starbucks because I had a gift card I wanted to use. I noticed that the car in front of me had a “Nana and Papa for Peace” sticker on the back window. I then noticed the license plate frame said “Work for Peace and Social Justice”. I thought to myself how the driver of the car in front of me and myself are kindred spirits. The line was going very slowly. I was thinking that I should run up to that car and give the driver my business card showing my affiliation to www.afdop.org and a separate information card about the Department of Peace campaign. I then thought that it might be a bad idea. She might think I’m a coo-coo or something. Then I thought, “why not?” I was really scared but if I didn’t go up to her right then and there, I wouldn’t ever have another chance. So I did. I was scared but I did it. I went up to her car, knocked on the window, told her I saw her window sticker and license plate frame, and thought she might be interested in the Department of Peace campaign. I didn’t get her name, but she and the other young woman in the car were very receptive and kind and took the cards I gave them with enthusiasm. I went back to my car with a new sense of confidence. Confidence in myself and confidence in the business card sized information sheet that I designed! I felt good! When I got up to the drive thru window, I found out that the kind lady bought my drinks! That whole episode of perhaps only 5 minutes, made my entire day! I hope she contacts me, or at the very least, checks out the Department of Peace campaign at www.afdop.org or www.thepeacealliance.com on the internet. Cheers to you, lady!
